In a decisive move to address rising cases of ‘one chance’ robberies and car theft, the FCT Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Haruna Garba Disu, has rolled out enhanced security measures across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The measures include the deployment of additional personnel and equipment for increased patrols, stop-and-search operations, and surveillance activities aimed at protecting motorists and passengers from criminal activities.
As part of the crackdown, the Command will impound vehicles without registration numbers, vehicles displaying only one plate, or those with defaced or covered plates. Strict enforcement of regulations regarding tinted windows will also be prioritized.
“We understand that these operations may cause some inconvenience, but they underscore our unwavering commitment to safeguarding all FCT residents,” said SP Josephine Adeh, the Command’s Public Relations Officer.
Since the introduction of these measures, the police have recorded significant successes, including the recovery of stolen vehicles and the arrest of suspects involved in ‘one chance’ crimes.
Public Cooperation and Reporting Encouraged
The Command has called on FCT residents to ensure compliance with vehicle regulations and to report suspicious activities to the police. “Your cooperation is vital in making Abuja a safer place,” SP Adeh emphasized.
For inquiries or emergencies, residents can contact the FCT Police Command at 08032003913 or 08028940883. Reports of police misconduct can be directed to the Public Complaint Bureau at 09022222352 or the Complaint Response Unit at 08107314192.
Commissioner of Police Disu assured residents that the Command is committed to maintaining a secure environment. “The safety of every resident remains our top priority. These measures are designed not only to deter criminal activities but also to restore confidence in the security apparatus within the FCT,” he said.
