Are we becoming lawless?

First of all, I have to begin by saying I am totally against brutality and infringement of an individual’s right.

Everybody has the right to express himself or herself as guaranteed by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

In this wise, I have keenly followed the arrest of Justice Mark Chidiebere aka ‘Justice Crack’ and the subsequent press release by the @HQNigerianArmy.

I have also seen the call for protests by his followers and sympathizers.

Putting all these together, I am left with some questions; doesn’t the Nigerian state not have the right to call individuals to clear themselves against allegations?

Is everything brutality and infringement on human rights?

Are we a country without laws and checks?

It is my firm belief that individuals accused/suspected of wrongdoing are allowed to clear themselves, especially when a government organ like the military has come out to say he is with a relevant agency for further investigation.

I urge our youths to be discerning. They should not allow themselves to be cultivated by individuals having ulterior motives, using them as means to an end.

I am worried about the use of protests to solve every problem, especially when such protests could be hijacked by bandit and terrorist cells hibernating across our cities.

Against this backdrop, I call for caution. I suggest we wait to see the outcome of the case against Justice Crack before embarking on protests, or else we may just be seen as anarchists.

Youths, be guided.
Let’s be circumspect.
