FCT Police Command Arrests Six ‘One Chance’ Gangs, Impounds 296 Vehicles

CP Olatunji Disu Leads Renewed Crackdown on Crime

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has achieved significant milestones in its campaign against crime, arresting six notorious ‘One Chance’ gangs and impounding 296 vehicles for various violations. The success comes under the leadership of Commissioner of Police (CP) Olatunji Rilwan Disu, whose proactive strategies and tactical interventions have enhanced safety across the capital.

Speaking during a press briefing on December 3, 2024, CP Disu credited the achievements to increased community collaboration and the efforts of a newly established Special Tactical Team. He urged residents to maintain their vigilance and continue providing actionable intelligence to the Command.

Arrests and Recoveries

Among the Command’s notable accomplishments was the arrest of six ‘One Chance’ groups, notorious for preying on unsuspecting residents.

● On November 23, 2024, a patrol team from the State Intelligence Department apprehended a suspect, Ibrahim Kabiru, along Ahmadu Bello Way. Recovered items included a Point-of-Sale (POS) machine, a knife, scissors, two mobile phones, and suspected stolen female luggage. Kabiru remains in custody, with investigations ongoing.

● On November 6, 2024, three suspects—Hyelda Aliyu (29), Mathias Nwosu (40), and Blessing Ukachukwu (49)—were arrested for impersonating law enforcement officers to abduct victims. Recovered items included two vehicles: a silver Toyota Corolla (Reg. No. KUJ 27 TY) and a blue Mazda 323 (Reg. No. RBC 711 XL). The suspects confessed to their crimes and are set to face prosecution.

In another operation, police operatives rescued Doris Gabriel, a pregnant woman abducted by a ‘One Chance’ gang posing as commercial vehicle operators. The swift response by the Karimo Division led to the arrest of one suspect, Ikechukwu Ngerem, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend his accomplices.

Traffic Enforcement

As part of its crackdown, the Command impounded 296 vehicles for offenses such as unauthorized use of tinted glasses, driving with a single plate number, and using defaced or concealed license plates. These measures aim to curb the misuse of vehicles for criminal activities and ensure adherence to traffic regulations.

CP Disu reiterated the importance of public cooperation in fighting crime. He urged residents to report suspicious activities through the Command’s established communication channels.

“These achievements underscore our unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property in the FCT,” CP Disu stated. “Let us continue working together to ensure a safer and more secure environment for all residents.”

The recent successes highlight the effectiveness of the Command’s proactive approach and the critical role of community collaboration in combating crime.
