… Emma Seligman Returns as Alumna for April Event Celebrating Emerging Talent

The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) will host its annual Next Wave Film Festival from April 10–13, 2025, at the TIFF Lightbox, showcasing boundary-pushing cinema by emerging filmmakers aged 14–24. The event, part of TIFF’s 50th-year celebrations, will feature 10 films—including six debuts—centered on themes of self-discovery, friendship, and creative expression.

Notably, alumna Emma Seligman (Shiva Baby, Bottoms) will return to introduce her acclaimed works, highlighting the festival’s role in launching careers. “Emma’s journey exemplifies how TIFF nurtures young creators and amplifies bold storytelling,” said Anita Lee, TIFF Chief Programming Officer. “This festival is about empowering youth to forge lifelong connections with film.”
The lineup spotlights international voices exploring identity and artistry, reinforcing TIFF’s commitment to fostering the next generation of filmmakers. Free panels and workshops will offer hands-on industry insights, aligning with the festival’s mission to make cinema accessible and inspiring for young audiences.
The Next Wave Film Festival underscores TIFF’s legacy as a launchpad for innovative storytellers, with past participants now shaping the global film landscape.
