Revenue agency pledges deeper collaboration to tackle tax evasion and improve internally generated revenue
The Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KW-IRS) has called for stronger collaboration with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to enhance tax compliance and curb financial infractions in the state.

The Executive Chairman of KW-IRS, Folashade Omoniyi, made the call on Thursday, March 12, 2026, when she led the management team of the service on a courtesy visit to the Ilorin Zonal Director of the EFCC, Victoria Ugo, at the commission’s office in GRA, Ilorin.
Omoniyi said the visit was aimed at welcoming the new zonal director and strengthening the existing working relationship between both institutions.
According to her, the revenue service has maintained the tradition of visiting new heads of key agencies in the state to foster cooperation and improve coordination between government institutions.
She recalled that she was first appointed as Executive Chairman of KW-IRS in October 2019 by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and was reappointed in October 2023 after completing her first tenure.
Omoniyi said the service has enjoyed a productive partnership with the EFCC over the years, particularly in areas related to accountability and revenue enforcement.
She also highlighted the recently enacted tax reform signed into law by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, explaining that the new framework is designed to simplify Nigeria’s tax system, reduce the burden on low-income earners and small businesses, and improve overall compliance.
Despite these reforms, the KW-IRS boss said tax evasion remains a major challenge, stressing the need for continued public awareness campaigns to educate citizens on their civic responsibilities under the new tax laws.
She noted that stronger collaboration between the revenue agency and the EFCC would help address tax evasion and other financial offences through improved enforcement and intelligence sharing.
According to her, such cooperation would ultimately increase internally generated revenue and support development initiatives across Kwara State.
Omoniyi also congratulated Ugo on her appointment as the new EFCC zonal director in Ilorin, expressing confidence that her leadership would strengthen the fight against economic and financial crimes in the zone.
In her response, Ugo thanked the KW-IRS delegation for the visit and the goodwill extended to the commission.
She noted that the anti-corruption drive under the leadership of the EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, places strong emphasis on tax compliance as a key element of financial integrity and national development.
Ugo added that the visit provided an opportunity for both institutions to interact, exchange ideas, and deepen collaboration aimed at improving accountability and combating financial crimes in Kwara State.
