Osita Izunaso joins race for Senate presidency

Senator representing Imo West, Osita Izunaso, has joined the race for the presidency of the 10th Senate and leadership of the National Assembly.

Senator Izunaso met with President Muhammadu Buhari earlier on Tuesday to present to him his certificate of return as the re-elected Senator of his Imo West constituency where he also told the President of his interest in seeking the top leadership position in the Senate.

Senator Izunaso graduated from University of Jos in 1989 and bagged a postgraduate diploma in journalism from the University of Abuja in 1998 and Masters in Business Administration from University of Calabar.

Before his sojourn in politics, Senator Izunaso was a journalist. He was elected into House of Representatives having earlier worked as Chief Press Secretary to then Speaker Agunwa Anakwe in 1992. He was also Chief Press Secretary to Senate President with the return of civilian administration in 1999. He served as Chief Press Secretary to the Minister of Youth and Sports from 1995-97 and retained same position with Minister of Labour and Productivity (1998-1999).

Currently the most ranking Senator from South East and South South, he was first elected into the Senate in 2007. He later served as the National Organising Secretary of All Progressives Congress after which he returned to the Upper chamber of the National Assembly.

At the Red Chamber, he has served as Chairman of Committees and member of others ranging from Rules and Business, Local and Foreign Debts, Housing, Gas, Foreign Affairs and Sports Development.

He also sponsored many bills and led debates during plenary sessions.
