NSITF Assures Prompt Compensation Payments, Presents N25 Million Cheque to National Assembly Staff

…Urges Parliament to ensure timely remittance of contributions

The Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that no Nigerian worker is left financially vulnerable due to workplace-related health setbacks, assuring prompt payment of compensation in strict compliance with its mandate.

NSITF Managing Director, Mr. Oluwaseun Faleye, gave this assurance on Tuesday in Abuja while presenting a N25 million cheque to a staff member of the National Assembly in the Office of the Clerk to the National Assembly.

Strengthening Compliance and Stakeholder Engagement
Faleye emphasized that the Fund is renewing its relationship with the National Assembly and engaging other stakeholders to ensure compliance with the NSITF Act.

“We at NSITF are taking our responsibility and our mandate much more seriously by engaging stakeholders. We are paying compensation much faster and quicker, and that is what today’s presentation of this cheque signifies,” Faleye stated.

He also appealed to Clerk of the National Assembly, Kamoru Ogunlana, to ensure that the Parliament remits its contributions as and when due, assuring that NSITF remains committed to fulfilling its mandate.

“I want to appeal to the Clerk of the National Assembly to ensure that the National Assembly begins to fulfill its commitment to NSITF by paying the necessary contributions. We urge you to help advocate patronage and commitment to the NSITF Act,” he said.

Faleye reiterated that the cheque presentation reflects the renewed efforts of NSITF’s new management in ensuring that compensation payments are made efficiently, providing financial relief to workers affected by workplace injuries or illnesses.

National Assembly Pledges Legislative Support
In his response, Clerk of the National Assembly, Kamoru Ogunlana, commended NSITF’s commitment to protecting Nigerian workers, stating that the presentation of the cheque underscores the agency’s dedication to social security and worker welfare.

“This initiative is not just about financial assistance; it is about restoring hope, alleviating burdens, and reaffirming our solidarity with all hardworking Nigerians who contribute immensely to the growth and development of our nation,” Ogunlana noted.

He assured that the National Assembly would provide the necessary legislative support to strengthen NSITF’s institutional capacity to deliver on its mandate.

“While I commend NSITF for implementing this scheme, I implore you to ensure that eligible beneficiaries receive their rightful entitlements without undue delay,” he added.

The NSITF continues to advocate for timely employer remittances and compliance with the Employees’ Compensation Scheme (ECS) to guarantee financial protection for all Nigerian workers in the event of workplace-related health challenges.
