NPowerKnowledge; inside the federal government scheme upskilling young Nigerians

(VIDEO TESTIMONIES)

The Federal Government of Nigeria under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari is creating massive opportunities for young people in Nigeria, through the N-Knowledge Programme.

N-Knowledge has been designed for non-graduates, to give them the opportunity to acquire skills to enhance their lives and turn them into entrepreneurs and job-creators.

Meet some of the beneficiaries from the North Central Zonal venue of the Training — the Public Service Institute of Nigeria (PSIN) —in the FCT. Beneficiaries there came from the seven States of the Zone: Benue, Niger, Plateau, Nasarawa, Kwara, Kogi and the FCT.

There were 3,745 young Nigerians, they underwent a three-month training (October to November 2021) in the four thematic areas of N-Knowledge: Animation, Scriptwriting, Software, Hardware.

Similar training sessions were carried out in all other geopolitical zones of the country — in total around 20,000 young Nigerians benefited from that first phase.

The beneficiaries all heard about the opportunity to apply on TV, radio, online, by word of mouth; and they did. They went through a selection process, and made it onto the list of successful applicants.

They came from far and wide; they didn’t need any ‘connections’ to get in. Some among them are physically challenged, and every effort was to create a conducive environment for them to learn.

Accommodation was provided for all participants, for the duration of the training. On arrival at the Camp, each person received N42,000 to cover transportation and feeding costs. In addition to this, they will be receiving a monthly stipend of N10,000 for a period of nine months. They have also been provided with detailed manuals and tools, and expert instructors.

At the end of the N-Knowledge Training Programme, they will be proceeding into the society to utilize and deploy the skills they have gained. Some of them will be looking to get gainful employment, others will set up their own businesses and become entrepreneurs. None of them is going to be the same after this.

N-Knowledge will also be giving each beneficiary a laptop that they will take away from the training. The idea is to set them up for the new chapter of their lives.

President Buhari is determined to fulfill his vision of kickstarting the lifting of 100 million Nigerians out of poverty this decade.

In this regard, he has tasked Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq, Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development (FMHDMSD) with the goal of overseeing and expanding Africa’s largest social investment programme, of which the N-Power youth empowerment and job creation scheme is a critical component.
