Asiwaju’s Visit to Senator Sani Mohammed Doesn’t Amount to Endorsement

Like an Omoluabi that he is (Yoruba word for a man with character), Asiwaju Tinubu last week called on Senator Sani Mohammed from Niger State in Abuja. The Distinguished Senator is one of those jostling for APC chairmanship.
Following the brotherly visit, the social media has been abuzz with many framing the visit as it pleases them.

Some in a feat of mischievous ingenuity have equated the innocuous visit to an endorsement of the chairmanship aspiration of the Distinguished Senator.
Nothing can be further from the fact.

Truth is both are no strangers to each other. I learnt that when Asiwaju Tinubu underwent a knee surgery last year, Senator Mohammed was one of those who visited him in London.
Only recently too, the Senator too had a medical procedure for which some visited him.
Asiwaju’s visit, those close to him reckon, is in consonance with that. He only went to empathise with the Senator and not to endorse him.

The Senator should be allowed to ventilate his aspiration and advance his course. He is eminently qualified to contest for the chairmanship. He is perfectly entitled to his aspiration. He also has the right to receive guests in his residence for different reasons.

However, on the matter of endorsement, there is no debating the fact that it’s only the generality of the APC members or their delegates who would endorse and automatically decide who becomes chairman. Not the party leaders, not Asiwaju.
